Donate Your Car Before December 31 — And Help Build a More Sustainable Los Angeles

11/28/2025

Every year, thousands of cars across Los Angeles sit unused—parked in driveways, garages, and curbs. What many people don’t know is that those same vehicles can create real change for our community.
When you donate your car to 1 Plastic Life, you’re not only receiving a meaningful tax benefit. You’re helping us reduce plastic pollution, empower students, and create job training opportunities for unhoused individuals rebuilding their lives.
And the best part? Vehicle donations made before December 31 qualify for a 2025 tax deduction.

Why Donating Your Car Before December 31 Matters
As the year comes to an end, many people look for meaningful ways to give back. A vehicle donation is one of the most impactful gifts you can make.
Here’s why it matters:
• You receive a tax deduction for 2025
• Your donation directly supports sustainability and education in Los Angeles
• You help provide job training opportunities for unhoused individuals
• You support expanding recycling programs at schools across LAUSD
1 Plastic Life is a CalRecycle-certified Community Service Recycling Program committed to reducing plastic pollution in low-income communities. Since 2017, we’ve diverted more than 6 tons of plastic from landfills. Your vehicle helps fuel that mission.

How Your Car Donation Supports Real Change in Los Angeles
Your vehicle powers programs that create opportunity and purpose for people who need it most.

Creating Job Training for Unhoused and Unemployed Individuals

Story of One: How One Vehicle Donation Helped Someone Rebuild Their Life
Last year, a community member donated a vehicle that hadn’t run in almost ten years. That single donation helped fund job-training hours for one of our participants—let’s call him “Luis.”
Luis had been unhoused for several years. When he joined our recycling program, he showed up every day ready to work. Through hands-on recycling tasks and community support, he found stability, confidence, and purpose again.
Your donation can help create that same opportunity for someone else who is ready to rebuild.

Here’s what you can expect:
  1. Fill out the quick online form
  2. Schedule your free pickup
  3. Vehicle proceeds are donated to 1 Plastic Life

How 1 Plastic Life Supports Unhoused Individuals Through Job-Training Programs

11/27/2025

Plastic pollution and homelessness are two major challenges facing Los Angeles — but at 1 Plastic Life, we address both through a single solution: paid job-training programs centered around recycling.
We partner with LAUSD schools, community events, and local organizations to collect CRV beverage containers and plastics. These materials are then processed by unhoused individuals who receive training, support, and meaningful work experience.
Building Skills Through RecyclingParticipants learn how to:
  • Identify CRV and non-CRV materials
  • Sort and prepare recyclables
  • Operate small-scale recycling machines
  • Track material weights and data
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace
This experience not only provides income, but also helps individuals build confidence, structure, and a pathway forward.
Connecting to Long-Term ResourcesThrough our partnerships with local service providers, participants may also receive:
  • Housing referrals
  • Mental-health resources
  • Career coaching
  • Pathways to stable employment
A Community-Centered ApproachOur mission is built around compassion and empowerment. When students see how the recyclables they collect support someone in need, it strengthens empathy and community connection.
Every bottle collected helps create a job. Every training session helps create a future.

How 1 Plastic Life Transforms Everyday Plastics Into New, Useful Products

11/27/2025

At 1 Plastic Life, recycling is more than sorting bottles — it’s about transforming overlooked materials into purpose. While CRV bottles are collected and processed through state-certified recycling centers, our plastic creations come from a different category of plastics altogether.
These include everyday items such as:
  • Yogurt and sour cream containers
  • To-go clamshells
  • Plastic cups
  • Spoons and forks
  • Microwaveable containers
  • Other types of food-grade plastics that are often thrown away
These materials, commonly made from #5 polypropylene (PP) plastics, perfect for shredding, melting, and reshaping into new items.

From Daily Waste to Durable Products Once collected, these plastics are taken to our community processing sites. Here, unhoused and unemployed individuals participate in paid job-training, learning how to:
  • Clean and sort food-grade plastics
  • Identify plastic types using simple tools
  • Shred the materials into small flakes
  • Operate injection molding and extrusion machines
  • Safely produce new items from recycled plastic
When the shredded plastic is heated and melted, it becomes a workable material that can be molded into:
  • Keychains
  • Clips
  • Carabiners
  • Small tools
  • Art pieces
  • Custom items for school fundraising
Every piece becomes proof that waste can be transformed into something with value and purpose.

Why This Work Matters Recycling food-grade plastics this way has a big environmental and social impact:
Environmental Impact
  • Keeps plastics that are rarely recycled out of landfills
  • Reduces pollution in low-income communities
  • Shows students how recycling can create real-world solutions
Social Impact
  • Provides paid job training to unhoused individuals
  • Offers a safe and structured workspace
  • Builds hands-on skills that translate into future employment
  • Helps participants regain confidence and stability
Educational Impact
  • Students see the full lifecycle of plastic
  • Schools experience the benefits of sustainability in action
  • Young people learn that recycling can spark creativity and innovation

Turning Waste Into Opportunity Every shredded clamshell, every repurposed spoon, and every melted yogurt cup is more than plastic — it’s a job opportunity, a teaching moment, and a chance to reduce waste in Los Angeles.

Welcome to 1 Plastic Life — Building a Cleaner, Safer, and More Sustainable Los Angeles

11/26/2025

Welcome to the official blog of 1 Plastic Life, a Los-Angeles–based nonprofit dedicated to reducing plastic pollution, supporting schools, and providing job-training opportunities to unhoused and unemployed individuals.
As a CalRecycle Certified Community Service Recycling Program and a Certified Social Enterprise through the Los Angeles County Department of Economic Opportunity, our mission is rooted in sustainability, community impact, and second chances.
Every week, we work with LAUSD schools, community partners, and local events to collect CRV beverage containers and single-use plastics. These materials are recycled properly — keeping them out of landfills, streets, and storm drains — while also creating real employment pathways for people who need them most.
Through this blog, you’ll find:
  • Updates on our school recycling programs
  • Impact reports from events, campuses, and community partners
  • Stories about individuals gaining job training and stability through our program
  • Educational posts about plastic pollution, sustainability, and reducing waste
  • Announcements, awards, and new partnerships
  • Behind-the-scenes progress as we expand across Los Angeles
Plastic pollution is a growing challenge in our city, but every bottle collected and every person trained moves us toward a cleaner, safer Los Angeles.
This blog will serve as a place to share that journey — the progress, the milestones, the community wins, and the work still ahead.
Thank you for supporting sustainability, education, and second chances.
Together, we are proving that one small action can create a big impact.
